Drivel From Devizes: Dateline – Sunday
9th July 2017
Here is our weekly round-up of events from Devizes:
1. After
an epic three-test series, in which every possible tactic was used, and every
sinew strained, the Devizes Lions Club drew their Germolene League (South West
Lower Division) bowls match with Potterne’s Key Wheeze Club. The trophy was thus shared, and honours
even. Crowds of up to seven people were
seen to invade the pitch. The excitement
leading up to the next series of games in four years’ time was almost
palpable. Almost.
2. In
diplomatic circles the head of Devizes Council, Theresa Green, attended
Wiltshire’s G20 summit, where she was ignored by the head of Trowbridge
Council, not invited to a meeting with Melksham Council, and omitted from the group
discussion chaired by Salisbury Council.
Having spent several days helplessly wandering the corridors of power, openingclosed
doors and peering inside, looking for someone to talk to, Ms Green claimed that
the summit had been “a huge success” and “a recognition of the important continuing
role played by Devizes” in Wiltshire politics.
3.
For
details of these and all other Devizes stories, don’t forget to listen to local
radio station D-Town F-Off.
