Drivel From Devizes: Dateline – Sunday 11th February
2018
Here is our weekly round-up of events from D-Town:
1. Wild celebrations broke out on the streets of D-Town
following the successful launch into outer Wiltshire of the Heavy Ford Cortina
taxi service. The probe was intended to
go into orbit around the Trowbridge Ring Road, but a slight miscalculation with
the accelerator pedal pushed the vehicle a little further than intended. It may now reach the outskirts of Frome in
the Somerset Belt. It is not known how
long the Super 8 cassette deck will continue to play “The Road to Hell” on a
constant loop, nor how long the driver will stay at the wheel before stopping
at a drive-thru branch of McDonalds for a Big Mac.
2. Slightly less welcome was the news announced by the
leader of the Town Council that plans are to be put in place for a Grand Parade
through the Market Place, in a show of civic strength to other boroughs. It is envisaged that the parade will feature
a march-past by local branches of Cubs & Scouts, the Provisional Wing of
the Salvation Army and the massed ranks of traffic wardens and Community Support
Officers. A fleet of municipal vehicles
will bring up the rear, including the private fleets of rubbish carts, milk
floats and local buses.
3. For details of these and all other Devizes stories, don’t
forget to listen to local radio station D-Town F-Off.
