Bulletin From Bromham: Dateline
– Sunday 7th August 2016
Here is our weekly round-up of events from Bromham:
1. The
four-yearly sporting extravaganza that is the Bromham Games is now in full
swing. In a spectacular opening ceremony
on Friday night, the leader of the Parish Council, Theresa Green, switched on
the spectacular light display in the High Street, consisting of almost 100 LED
bulbs in three different colours. The
Bromham flame was carried into the sports stadium by one of the local youth
club, and used to set alight a grand bonfire of rubbish that we’ve been meaning
to burn for a few weeks now. The Games
Committee then retired to the Saloon Bar of The Wounded Ferret for a slap-up
meal of a pie and a pint.
2. The
leader of the Carrot-Rooters’ Action Party (CRAP) Jezzer “Cor” Bean denounced
the Games as a complete waste of public money, and threatened, that if CRAP
ever came to power, they would take the Games into Public Ownership. He also threatened to re-open Bromham’s
now-forgotten treacle mining industry, to begin building sub-standard cars
again at the re-badged Bromham Leyland, and to provide subsidies to the village’s
19th-century shipbuilding firms, provided that the Kennet & Avon
canal can be widened and deepened.
3.
For
details of these and all other Bromham stories, don’t forget to listen to local
radio station Carrot FM.
