Drivel From Devizes: Dateline – Sunday 13th October 2019
Here is our weekly
round-up of events from D-Town:
1. Sponsors
and organisers of the West Wiltshire (Germolene League) rugby cup competition
have been taken to task for suggesting that the key clash between D-Town Dragons
and Trowvegas Terriers might be called off due to expected extreme weather conditions. After light showers were threatened for
nearly thirty minutes around kick-off time, organisers quoted Health &
Safety concerns, and that the ball might get a bit damp. But supporters of both clubs were outraged
that one of them might be knocked out of the competition without even playing a
game. As things stand in Pool C, each team
needs to defeat the other by at least 92-0 in order to progress to the
quarter-final stage.
2. And
in other news, conditions in the Pewsey Vale have deteriorated after shock troops
from Potterne moved into Salisbury Plain in a planned military exercise to
remove former D-Town allies from their occupied territories. Fierce fighting has been reported, and a
stream of nearly five refugees has been reported as fleeing from the area. The military vacuum was caused by the
withdrawal of defensive units from Poulshot by order of the Parish
Council. However, after two days of
constant rain and cold temperatures, the action was called off so that everyone
could go home and warm up with some hot soup.
It is hoped that the fighting can start again next week.
