Shrinking Congregation
I watch with some puzzlement
As our local vicar modifies his church
He’s closed down the meeting rooms
And he’s had his pulpit made a smaller size
Now he’s installed much smaller pews
And he’s had the stained-glass windows lowered
And, with the bishop’s stern approval,
The altar’s on a lower table than it was
I enquired about these modifications
So he confided to me in a recent conversation
He says he’s dealing with a shrinking congregation
